SearchforSignificance Text: 1 Kings 3:1-15; 2 Chr. 1:2-13; 2 Chr. 8:7-16N.T.: Mt. 7:24-27; Heb. 5:11-14; 1 Cor. 8:9

Sermon in a Nutshell: Solomon understood his weakness and in many ways looked to God to provide what was necessary to lead God’s people.  But it only takes one “allowance” to take us to our demise.  Solomon was wise enough to know he was making a mistake from God’s perspective (2 Chr. 8:11), but he was foolish enough to think he wouldn’t have to pay the consequences.  Based upon how you live your life which is most important for your search for significance, wisdom, or obedience?

Reasons for Obedience (practice what we know)

  • The love of Christ compels us to obey
  • Sin is destructive
  • The Father will discipline us
  • His commands are good for us
  • We will receive rewards
  • Obedience is an opportunity to honor God
