NEXT WEEK’S BIBLE READINGS   June 20-26,  Joshua 17-24

In a Nutshell:  Competency is required for many actions and responsibilities in life -- driving a car, flying an airplane, teaching at a school.  Yet, somehow many parents get thrust into this enormous responsibility of raising kids with no training and no confidence.  There are scores of good books, seminars, methodologies and programs focused on parenting children in their early years.  But let's go back to the basics.  2 Timothy tells us that the Word of God equips us for every good work, and that certainly applies to parenting young children -- a very good work, and a big responsibility.

Texts: Ephesians 6:1-4;   others:  Joshua 13-16; Psalm 127:3; 2 Tim. 3:16; Prov. 23:12-14; Heb 12:5-11

Foundational Truth:  Children are a   blessing  , NOT a   burden.

Key Principles:

1. Children need to be   nurtured  , not   neglected.

2. Children need to be   disciplined  , not   harmed   or   abused  .

3. Children need to be raised according to the   character   and   attributes   of God, not the   expectations   of man.
